Well…..I guess to sum up this day would be: I came, I saw, I went for pizza ^^

Since there was a forecast for only rain today and I didn’t feel like getting soaked all over again, I slept in….and woke up to bright sunshine *eyeroll*
I decided to make the most of it and headed to the Colloseum. It really is impressive, it’s just so BIG….imagine what people must have felt at the sight of this 2000 years ago, not knowing skyscrapers and high-rises like we do today.
I decided not to go in, looking at the hoards of tourists milling about; instead I took a walk to another of the museums included in the pass I bought yesterday.
I spent about an hour at the Crypt of Balbi, an excavation site with a lot of in-depth information. Trust me, it’s A LOT of reading, but it’s interesting. You can even go to the underground levels, and it’s really amazing that the roman street level is nowadays almost two stories underground…
After that…..PIZZA!!!! I headed to La Base, only a stone’s throw away from the Colloseum, and it was completely delicious – and affordable. For a Pizza Napoli and a 0,4l IPA I paid €12,50. Pretty good for Rome, especially if it is delicious.
Back to the hostel for a nap before heading to the Terme di Dioclezian, which I thought would be the ruins of an imperial Roman bath, but of course they demolished the grand structure in the 15th century to build another f’ing church….*sigh*
I didn’t spend too much time there. Instead, I researched places for dinner 😉 Since it would be my ‘last supper’ in Rome, I wanted to make sure it was a good one. I ended up going to Li Rioni di Santiquattro, a small restaurant about 10 min east of the Colloseum. When I got there at 7:30pm there were still a lot of tables to be had, but by the time I left at 8:30 it was PACKED, with people waiting for seats. I guess sometimes it’s good that I’m not on the Italian schedule of ‘dinner at 9pm’.
I got the house wine, which was delicious, as well as a Pizza Capricchiosa (without the egg), and Tiramisu for dessert….all for €18,50. And on the way back I got some nice views of the Colloseum at night, without the millions of tourists.
On the way back to the hostel I took a detour via the spanish steps at night and I enjoyed a couple more IPA’s at the hostel’s bar while bringing you all up to speed…..I hope you appreciate it 😉
Tomorrow, I’ll be heading home, until the next adventure begins…..
