It was time to leave our wonderful trail angel’s house and head back to the trail. So we packed up and Naked River gave us a ride back to Snoqualmie Pass, stopping at Krispy Kreme on the way.

Sleeping in a bed after being on the ground for a while feels strange to me. I didn’t wake up particularly rested, but hungry. 😂 I guess the hunger has finally hit me and is asking to be appeased at least every two hours.

Considering I was in such pain last night and pretty much squeezed in between the two tents on a slant, I slept well. I saw the sun rise this morning and packed up quickly. I tried hiking in my sleep pants at first, but that only made the chaffing hurt worse.

I actually took the time to make breakfast before starting the day’s uphill. Oatmeal is something that gives me really good energy, but I have to force myself to eat it. Even though it is delicious.

Oh my goodness, I actually found a campsite with water that has no mosquitos, dreams really do come true….although still no sign of Sink. But let’s start at the beginning of the day.

I woke up a few times during the night and always there were swarms of mosquitoes around me. Thankfully my headset actually keeps the buggers away. At around 6 I packed up and got the hell out of there. The trail was pretty OK today and the mosquitoes weren’t always as bad.

Steven’s Pass (188.4) – Tentsite (192): 3.6 miles / 221.9 total miles walked
After another night in the bunkhouse, I had some baguette and cream cheese for breakfast before figuring out my food for the next section of hiking. The upcoming 75 miles between Steven’s and Snoqualmie Pass are the hardest section on the entire PCT, in terms of elevation gain and loss, with almost 30000ft of climbing and descending.

Dinsmore’s Hiker Haven (188.4) / Leavenworth: 0 miles / 218.3 total miles walked
Sleeping in the bunkhouse at the Dinsmore’s actually worked out pretty well. I woke up around 7 and then about 5 hikers stood around the coffeemaker trying to get it to work. On the end, it took boiling water in a pot and handfiltering a full pot of liquid gold.

Grizzly Peak (174) – Steven’s Pass (188.4): 14.4 miles / 218.3 total miles walked
My alarm went off at 4:30 and I packed up insanely fast, just because I didn’t want to get eaten alive by the bloodthirsty insects. I started walking at 5 am and basically didn’t stop until I needed water at 7:30. And and Deerbait and a little later Fuad showed up. Like the rest of us, he was almost completely out of food, had had even less to work with for the last couple of days. What we do for following our passion, right?

This spoke Sink last night, and since we were both dangerously low on food, I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time. Pulling a 22 mile day after an 18 mile day…well.
